Samjosef Belangel made his presence felt offensively as Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus scored a 92-61 rout over Seoul Samsung Thunders in the Korean Basketball League on Tuesday night at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium.
The former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles standout finished with a team-high of 19 points, including five three-point conversions, to go with three rebounds, one assist, and a steal as the Pegasus improved to a 27-25 win-loss slate.
Kim Nak-hyeon added 17 markers, Ndoye Youssopha and Kwak Jeong-hoon contributed 16 points apiece, while Woo Dong-Hyun ended with 10 points for the playoff-bound Pegasus.
Pegasus head coach Kang Hyun expressed his satisfaction with the significant contributions from players he seldom utilized, which resulted in a decisive victory in their third-to-last elimination match.
“Starting from the first quarter, players who were not usually put in played actively in both offense and defense,” Kang said in a post-game interview. “I am grateful to the players for showing the bench atmosphere, the players’ will, and our colors today.”
“I will not be satisfied. The opponent will pressure more in the playoffs. That is why we have to get better,” he added. “I expect them to show a better performance in the playoffs.”
Glenn Robinson III finished with 19 points, six rebounds, and two assists, while Filipino guard Justin Gutang added 14 markers for the Thunders, which dropped to a 15-36 record.
Meanwhile, JD Cagulangan tallied 11 points, eight assists, four rebounds, and two steals as the Suwon KT Sonicboom (32-19) defeated the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters (23-28), 88-85.
