Tapales halts Indonesian foe in 3 rounds, captures WBC international title

Two-division former world champion Marlon Tapales made short work of Indonesian opponent Jon Jon Let to capture the WBC international super bantamweight title on Sunday night in General Santos City.

Tapales landed punishing blows that broke Let’s nose, leading to a corner stoppage after the third round.

The former unified WBA-IBF super bantamweight champion applied relentless pressure throughout, overwhelming the Indonesian, who struggled to fend him off.

Let tried to fight back toward the end of the third stanza, but his corner, concerned by heavy bleeding from his nose, waved off the bout.

The win marked Tapales’s 40th career victory against four defeats, including 21 knockouts, allowing him to maintain his lofty rankings across major boxing bodies.

Tapales is currently ranked No. 2 by the WBC, No. 3 by the IBF, and No. 5 by the WBA — positioning him closer to another world title shot.

The Filipino last held the WBA and IBF titles before falling to Japan’s Naoya Inoue, the current undisputed super bantamweight champion.
