Former Columbus police sergeant announces campaign for City Council Seat District 1

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Karen Gaskins, a former sergeant for the Columbus Police Department, announced her campaign to run for City Council Seat District 1.

Gaskins, a resident of Columbus, announced her campaign on Friday, that she is running for the City Council Seat District 1 and says it's "time again to serve Columbus with my extensive skill set, experience, and passion."

She says she's targeting affordable housing, accountability among leaders, and safety concerns in Columbus.

"The safety concerns of my district are a priority to me. While working in solidarity with other council members, I will utilize my extensive experience and passion to advocate resources for the underserved to truly make a difference," Gaskins said in a release. "Transparency and trust in our government is a vital, and I am committed to restore and deliver."

She added, "I look forward to leading Columbus in prosperity and growth for all its citizens."
