COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The results for East Alabama's municipal elections are all in and it was revealed that Jasponica Florence claimed victory over former Police Chief Ray Smith for the City Council at Large race.
Florence defeated Smith 52% to 48%.

WRBL News 3's Teresa Whitaker spoke to Florence following the election results on Tuesday, where she provided her reaction to the victory and discussed what all she plans to do for Phenix City.
"I know that I am one person coming onto a clearly defined city council, but I am a different person," said Florence. "I have different tactics, I have different ways of helping our community."

She went into detail about her plan to revitalize businesses and infrastructure in Phenix City, while maintaining its history.
"Being very aware that the infrastructure of Phenix City is 102 years old... looking for ways to modernize things, but also looking for ways to engage people."

Vickey Green Carter is the projected winner for District 2 in Phenix City over Barry Oswalt, Arthur L. Day is the projected winner for District 3 over Jamar Gayles, and Richard Carter is the projected winner over KeAnthony Brooks for Phenix City Board of Education, Board Member District 2, Place 2.
