COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Columbus Police Department Sgt. Jane Edenfield was back at WRBL News 3 and spoke to Teresa Whitaker about how to watch out for scammers on social media.
Edenfield says social media can be the perfect portal for scammers to get individuals' information based on what the user is revealing in certain posts.
Certain surveys can reveal personal security answers to important information, such as banking or insurance info that scammers can use when they call into these entities posing as another individual.
Edenfield says some of the best ways to deter scammers and not be a victim of fraud are to change the privacy settings on the account, be mindful of the pictures being posted and simply refrain from revealing overall personal information, such as family members' or pet names.
