Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo will spearhead Alas Pilipinas as the men’s national volleyball team makes its long-awaited debut in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, which kicks off this week in Manila.
The two overseas-based spikers headline the 14-man roster that opens its Pool A campaign against Tunisia on Friday, September 12, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Joining Bagunas and Espejo are veterans Owa Retamar, Kim Malabunga, and Jack Kalingking, who were part of the country’s silver medal run in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
Rising talents also made the cut, including National University standouts Leo Ordiales, Buds Buddin, Peng Taguibolos, and Jade Disquitado. They will be joined by UAAP MVP Josh Ybañez and NCAA MVP Louie Ramirez.
Lloyd Josafat, Vince Lorenzo, and Eco Adajar round out the squad that will represent the Philippines in what is considered the biggest edition of the World Championship, featuring 32 nations.
After facing Tunisia, Alas Pilipinas will battle Egypt on September 16 before wrapping up its group stage campaign against powerhouse Iran on September 18.
