Chilly start to the day with more fall temperatures ahead

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) -- Good Tuesday Morning! We're waking up to the coldest air we've felt since early April, with widespread temperatures dipping into the mid 40s across the region.

Despite the chilly start, today will feature plenty of sunshine, filtered at times by high clouds moving in ahead of a dry cold front. Unfortunately, this front won't bring any relief to our ongoing drought, but it will reinforce the crisp, fall-like air that's here to stay for the rest of the week.

Tonight, temperatures won't be quite as cold, but many areas will still fall into the low 50s—rural spots may even flirt with the upper 40s again.

As the dry front moves through, expect another round of cooler mornings, with lows settling into the 40s through much of the week. Afternoon highs will level out in the upper 70s, right on track for this time of year.

Looking ahead, we'll see increasing cloud cover by the end of the week as a weak system moves in from the west. This may bring a few spotty showers Sunday into early next week.

Better rain chances are shaping up by midweek as a stronger front approaches—welcome news for those hoping to put a dent in the dry conditions.

Stay warm this morning, and enjoy the crisp fall weather!
