Columbus, Ga (WRBL) — The Columbus High Blue Devil softball team has a lot on its plate in the coming weeks as it prepares to face Callaway in the second round of the playoffs.
But how did the Blue Devils get to this point?
The Blue Devils have excelled against their region this season, posting a 10-2 record against 2A Region 1 opponents. That regular-season success earned Columbus a spot in the state playoffs.
Their first opponent was Drew Charter, in a doubleheader at home. The offense was unstoppable, as Columbus rolled to a pair of 20-0 victories. But the real story came from the mound.
In game one, freshman pitcher Addi Hart threw a perfect game in just 30 pitches. If the Blue Devil bats weren't enough, the pitching certainly was. A perfect game is a rare accomplishment on its own — but in the second matchup, Hart once again took the circle and tossed a no-hitter.

"I made sure to stay calm because I know I get in my head, but I knew that was a very important game," Hart said. "I knew that if I got in my head even the slightest bit, it could have thrown everything off."
Hart's composure paid off, as she led her team to back-to-back shutout wins and a spot in the next round. The freshman stepped up in a big way, achieving personal milestones while helping her team advance in the postseason.
Columbus High will open its next series against Callaway on Wednesday, October 22, at 5 p.m. EST. You can follow the Blue Devils' journey through the 2A Softball State Championship bracket here.
