Gregzilla sa Titan Ultra? Slaughter ready for a PBA comeback

MLV-Zamboanga Valientes center Gregory Slaughter said he remains open to a return to the PBA as he continues to feel healthy and motivated to keep playing at a high level.

The 7-foot big man said he still believes he has several productive years left in his career and would welcome the chance to play again in the country’s top professional league.

“We’ll see. You know, that’s something I’d really like to do, especially in my career. I still feel pretty good, healthy. I got a few more years left in me,” Slaughter said in a video interview released by the Valientes.

“I got three kids now. So, playing in the PBA would be something special for me and my family,” added the former Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings slotman.

Slaughter described how his current situation is very different from when he was playing full-time in the PBA, noting that staying in shape now requires more personal expense and effort.

“You have three children. Yeah, it’s different, you know, renting the gym, you know, buying your own balls, just paying for everything just to be able to stay in shape,” he said.

“But, you know, fortunately, I’ve had a pretty good career and was able to provide myself with a stable situation with me and my family. And it’s just very enjoyable to do this,” he added.

While he said he is financially stable, Slaughter admitted that having a growing family has changed the way he looks at his future and career decisions.

“Having three kids now, you know, it’s a different outlook on the future. You know, that’s something that I need to look at how to provide for them,” he said.

Slaughter added that he believes he can still contribute in the PBA, especially at a time when quality big men are in short supply.

“Yeah, well, you know, I think I can still provide a lot in the PBA. So, you know, any teams, I’m just waiting for the call,” he said.

He also confirmed that he has already had initial talks with Titan Ultra Giant Risers team manager Aldrian Anglim, and that discussions could resume as the Commissioner’s Cup approaches.

“I’ve been in talks with Aldrian a few months ago. And hopefully now that we’re entering the Commissioner’s Cup, we can continue those talks. So, we’ll see where that goes,” Slaughter said.

Asked if he is ready to suit up once an opportunity comes, the 7-foot center gave a simple answer: “Ready anytime.” (AC)
