A pro basketball player was arrested early Saturday morning following an alleged incident involving a woman inside a bar in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
According to a report by ABS-CBN’s Lyza Aquino, a 22-year-old complainant encountered the player in a smoking area of a bar where they accidentally bumped into each other.
As she attempted to apologize, the player allegedly pulled her and kissed her without consent, leaving her shocked. She immediately ran to inform her boyfriend about what happened.
The boyfriend then approached the player to confront him, noting that the suspect appeared heavily intoxicated. He also claimed that his girlfriend was not the only person allegedly subjected to such behavior that night.
The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in an eye injury to the boyfriend. The couple sought assistance from authorities and proceeded to file complaints.
Police investigation revealed that the suspect had prior cases, including alleged violations of the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) law in 2016 and 2018, as well as a 2021 case involving kidnapping and failure to return a minor, according to Taguig City Police.
The couple said they intend to pursue legal action despite an alleged attempt by the player to settle the matter privately.
The suspect, who has not been officially identified by authorities, is currently under the custody of the Taguig City Police and is facing complaints for acts of lasciviousness and physical injuries.
Online, some netizens speculated about the player’s identity, with several mentioning a former PBA player, though no confirmation has been made by authorities.
