Former NBA player Delonte West has marked a significant personal milestone, announcing that he is now 100 days sober after years of widely publicized struggles.
West, who played eight seasons in the league, shared the update in a video posted on March 25, appearing relaxed and upbeat while in Florida. Dressed in black and smiling, the 41-year-old addressed viewers directly.
“Yeah, I’m out here with my man Ted, you know what I’m saying? Get your shine on,” West said.
“We out here in Florida. Uber just pulled up. Cadillac. We are out here with Wellness Fitness & Performance. They got me right and tight,” he continued. “Today, I’m 100 days sober.”
The update has resonated across the basketball community, given West’s long battle with mental health and substance abuse following his playing career.
West was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2008. In the years after leaving the NBA, he faced a series of challenges, including homelessness, legal issues and repeated setbacks in his recovery. Viral videos in 2016 and 2020 showing him in distress sparked concern among fans and former colleagues.
In 2020, former Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban helped West enter a rehabilitation program, offering financial support during a difficult period. Despite multiple attempts at recovery, West experienced relapses and further legal troubles in recent years.
Reports indicate he was arrested several times in 2024 and 2025. In one incident in November 2025, he was found “unconscious and not breathing,” though he regained consciousness before authorities arrived. Earlier this year, his attorney said he had been making efforts to seek treatment.
West, a first-round pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, played for the Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks.
Known as a reliable guard, he averaged 9.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists over his career and played alongside stars such as LeBron James, Paul Pierce and Dirk Nowitzki.
While he has reached periods of sobriety before, this latest milestone — and his positive demeanor in the recent video — has renewed hope that he is on a more stable path forward. (AC)
