Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings opened its PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup campaign with a resounding 110-93 victory over Macau Black Knights on Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Justin Brownlee posted a double-double of 31 points and 10 rebounds to go with five assists, two steals, and two blocks as the Gin Kings cruised to a 1-0 mark in the standings.
RJ Abarrientos added 25 points, seven assists, and six rebounds, while Stephen Holt, Jeth Troy Rosario, and Norbert Torres had 13, 11, and 10 markers, respectively, for Ginebra.
Holding to a slim 24-21 lead after the opening quarter, the Gin Kings leaned on conversions from Brownlee and Abarrientos in the second period to build a 63-43 advantage at the half.
The Black Knights tightened their defense in the second half as they trimmed the deficit to as low as 15 points, but timely response from Brownlee and Abarrientos sealed the win for the Gin Kings.
Damian Chongqui top-scored for the Black Knights with 28 points, Jenning Leung added 21 markers, while Phoenix Shackelford and Tony Mitchell had 18 and 14, respectively. They fell to 0-3 mark. (AC)
