Filipino gymnast Karl Eldrew Yulo secured another finals spot at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup leg in Cairo, Egypt, after strong performances in the horizontal bar qualification rounds on Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines).
Yulo had another solid routine on the horizontal bar, finishing third in the qualifiers with 13.466 to clinch a berth in the apparatus final scheduled Monday night (Tuesday in the Philippines).
Another Filipino bet, Juancho Miguel Besana, also competed in the horizontal bar qualifiers and finished within the top 10 with a score of 12.233, placing him as the second reserve for the final.
The younger brother of two-time Olympic gold medal winner Carlos Yulo earlier advanced to the men’s floor exercise final with a score of 13.900. The medal round is set to take place Sunday (Monday in the Philippines).
Karl enters the Cairo meet on a high note, having recently captured the gold medal in the floor exercise at the Antalya leg of the World Cup series last month.
Meanwhile, Justine de Leon and John Ivan Cruz failed to reach the finals round after placing 13th and 15th in the rings and vault, respectively. Only the top eight will qualify to the medal rounds. (AC)
