Justin Brownlee takes over in 4th quarter as Ginebra outlasts Phoenix

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings rode on Justin Brownlee’s fourth quarter exploits to score a 109-96 triumph over Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Trailing 81-85 early in the final quarter, Brownlee converted 10 consecutive points followed by a layup from Earl Scottie Thompson to give the Gin Kings a 93-85 advantage.

The Gin Kings continued their run behind conversions from Brownlee, Thompson, Rhon Jay Abarrientos, and Stephen Holt as the lead reached 109-92 with under a minute left.

Brownlee led the way with 30 points, nine rebounds, and five assists to be named Player of the Game as the Gin Kings moved to solo fourth place with a 4-2 win-loss slate.

Abarrientos chipped in 28 markers, including seven three-point conversions, while Thompson and Holt added 17 and 13 points, respectively, as the Gin Kings won back-to-back games for the first time this conference.

James Dickey III finished with a double-double of 21 points and 21 rebounds, Kenneth Tuffin added 18 markers, while Jason Perkins and Evan Nelle had 17 and 11, respectively, as the Fuel Masters dropped to a 3-3 mark. (AC)
