AKARI Power Chargers earned its first victory in the 2026 PVL On Tour after defeating Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 27-25, 27-25, 21-25, 25-22, on Saturday in Polomolok, South Cotabato.
The Chargers overcame two tightly contested opening sets before holding off a late challenge from the Flying Titans to notch their breakthrough win in the preseason tournament.
Veteran middle blocker Risa Sato made a successful debut for Akari, while Faith Nisperos continued to show encouraging form as the Chargers strengthened their lineup.
Akari had to work for every point in the opening two frames, edging Choco Mucho by identical 27-25 scores to move within a set of completing a sweep.
The Flying Titans stayed alive by taking the third set, 25-21, forcing a fourth frame after capitalizing on Akari’s miscues.
The Chargers responded with a strong start in the fourth, building an early cushion before Choco Mucho erased the deficit to keep the outcome in doubt.
Akari, however, regained control in the closing stretch. Chenie Tagaod delivered the decisive attack despite appearing to struggle with a leg injury for much of the match. After scoring the winning point, Tagaod collapsed to the floor in pain as teammates rushed to celebrate the victory.
