Bolick, Lucero, Barefield assured of spots for Asiad-bound Gilas

ROBERT Bolick, Zavier Lucero and Sedrick Barefield will reportedly banner the Gilas Pilipinas lineup for the 2026 Asian Games slated for next month in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan.

An informant told Abante Bilyonaryo Group’s Homer Sayson that the three PBA stars are already assured of their spots as the national team begins its preparations for the continental competition on Wednesday.

The three players are part of the 30-man pool submitted by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) as its initial list of entries for the Asiad.

Bolick, who plays for NLEX, and Barefield of Blackwater were among the PBA players included in the initial pool, while Lucero represents Magnolia.

Other PBA stars named to the pool include June Mar Fajardo, Jaymar Perez, Jerrick Ahanmisi and Celedonio Trollano of San Miguel; Earl Scottie Thompson, Jeth Troy Rosario and Rhon Jay Abarrientos of Barangay Ginebra; and Calvin Oftana, Jordan Heading and Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser of TNT.

Converge contributed Justine Baltazar, Justin Arana and Juan Gomez de Liaño, while Rain or Shine has Adrian Nocum and Caelan Tiongson in the pool.

Chris Newsome and Brandon Bates are the other Meralco players listed, while Jason Perkins of Phoenix completes the PBA selections.

TNT guard Sean Quitevis was not part of the list but is invited to join the team as a practice player.

The 2026 Asian Games will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4, while the men’s basketball competition is scheduled to take place earlier, from Sept. 10 to 20. (Adrian Co)
