AN 18-year-old incoming De La Salle University student-athlete died after falling from the 10th floor of the university’s Enrique M. Razon Sports Complex at the Vito Cruz campus in Manila.
According to a Manila Police District report, authorities received information from a concerned citizen about a person seen at the ledge of the building’s 10th floor on Thursday noon.
Responding personnel immediately proceeded to the area, where they found the student-athlete at the ledge. The report said the victim subsequently fell to the ground.
The university’s duty doctor responded to the incident but the student-athlete was later declared dead on the spot.
De La Salle University later confirmed the incident and said it had contacted the student-athlete’s family while coordinating with authorities.
The university also said students who witnessed or were in the vicinity of the incident had been debriefed and were being provided counseling and support.
DLSU appealed to the public to respect the privacy of the student-athlete and the family and to help maintain a supportive and compassionate environment as the university community copes with the tragedy. (By the Staff)
