ROBERT Bolick, Jr. and the Asian Games-bound Gilas Pilipinas squad defeated the national team preparing for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers in a closed-door scrimmage on Monday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
An informant told Abante Bilyonaryo Group’s Homer Sayson that Bolick turned in a standout performance as the Asian Games team defeated the Gilas-FIBA squad, which featured 7-foot-3 Kai Sotto and other players preparing for the crucial August window.
Sayson added that the NLEX Road Warriors guard was particularly effective as a playmaker, helping the Asian Games-bound side build a sizable lead during the scrimmage.
The FIBA-bound Gilas team fell behind by as many as 18 points before the game ended.
The two squads are being prepared for different international assignments, with the FIBA team set to face Jordan and Iran in the World Cup Asian Qualifiers on Augus 28 and 30.
The Philippines enters the crucial FIBA window with a 2-4 record and faces a tight race to keep its World Cup qualification hopes alive. They will play minus naturalized player Justin Brownlee due to injuries.
The Asian Games squad, meanwhile, is preparing for their gold medal defense in the Asiad men’s basketball tournament in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan next month. (By the Staff)
