Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots coach LA Tenorio has been criticized over his readiness for the demands of high-stakes coaching after his team suffered back-to-back defeats to TNT Tropang 5G in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup quarterfinals.
Fastbreak columnist Homer Sayson questioned Tenorio’s preparedness in the playoffs after Magnolia fell behind 0-2 in its best-of-five series against the defending champions.
“As shown in Magnolia’s two disastrous defeats to TNT in the ongoing PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals, LA Tenorio is not ready for this big stage,” Sayson wrote.
He also cited an unnamed basketball analyst who offered a harsh assessment of Tenorio’s development as a coach.
“Hinog sa pilit as a coach. Parang kinalburo,” the analyst was quoted as saying.
Sayson agreed with the assessment, arguing that expectations could lead to disappointment when a coach is given a major responsibility before proving he is ready for it.
Despite the criticism, the columnist acknowledged Tenorio’s potential to become a successful coach in the future but maintained that he had yet to reach that level.
“LA will be a great coach someday. But someday is not today,” Sayson concluded.
Magnolia now faces a difficult path to the semifinals, needing three consecutive victories to overcome TNT’s 2-0 advantage and keep its Governors’ Cup campaign alive. (By the Staff)
