Local authorities were alerted 7 AM on Sunday that some people were killed around the area, 4 kilometers away from the central of Marawi.
All bodies were found to have been pierced with numerous bullet holes, both hands and feet were tied. Some bodies were attached with cardboards written the word "Munafek" which translates to "liar" or "traitor".
Probers stated that the victims were most likely killed on the same site where the bodies where found due to the fresh blood and scattered bullet shell casing found on the ground.
According to two Maranao women who were working in a rice mill close by, the victims were also employees at the mill and were part of stranded group because of fighting. Women witnessed the men were captured by 20 members of the Maute group at a bridge in Barangay Napindan and were ordered to recite a Muslim prayer.
Unfortunately, eight men failed to recite the Muslim prayer and were killed, the rest were allowed to leave. Survivors reported to authorities that there were Muslims killed with the Christians.
Meanwhile, a different version of the story was given by a Marawi police officer Jamail C. Mangadang. Those eight men found were carpenters who were part of an evacuation convoy halt by militants.
The police officer stated that the information was given by their manager. The eight men were forcefuly taken out of their truck for they weren't able to recite and cite verses of the Koran.
"We heard gunfire, although I’m not sure if it was the same people who were shot. Early in the morning, at 08.20, there are civilians, concerned citizens, who said ‘can you verify these dead bodies'?" Mangadang said.
The discovered bodies gave more fear to the villagers and concern about their safety who are in the city.
Marawi City has 200, 000 population and about ninety percent of the Marawi City residents have safely evacuated and left to safer places. However, there are still thousands of residents who are stranded and trapped in either inside their homes or somewhere else and probably with nothing to eat and drink.
Earlier, Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesperson General Restituto Padilla reported eight bodies of women and a child included 300 meters outside Mindanao State University campus.
Victims were reported to be killed "mercilessly killed by Maute-Daesh". However, the place/s where and why these women were killed is still not known to the authorities.
As of Saturday, a total of 41 Maute terrorist members have been killed, the government have lost 13 of their troops and 45 wounded in their ongoing operations in Marawi and 19 civilians were killed by the terrorist group.
