Indonesia eliminates Philippines from Badminton Asia women's tilt

INDONESIA eliminated the Philippines, 5-0, in the 2020 Badminton Asia Team Championships women’s division on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Georgia Tunjung beat Nicole Albo, 19-21, 21-11, 21-9; and Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu defeated Alyssa Leonardo and Thea Pomar, 21-18, 21-12, before SEA Games silver medalist Ruselli Hartawan downed Bianca Carlos, 21-10, 21-18, to clinch the tie.

Siti Fadia Ramadhanti and Ribka Sugiarto won over Geva De Vera and Chanelle Lunod, 21-7, 21-8, and Putri Kusuma Wardani beat Sarah Barredo, 21-19, 21-14, to complete the sweep.

Indonesia will face Thailand on Thursday in hopes of taking Group Y.

A silver lining for the Philippine women’s team is the set victory of Albo against Tunjung, the top shuttler of Indonsia, in the first singles match of the competition backed by Smart, MVP Sports Foundation, Leisure and Resorts World, Cignal, and TV5.

“Feeling ko naging maganda naman 'yung performance ko, knowing malakas talaga 'yung team ng Indonesia and 'yung nakalaban ko is 'yung ranked number one sa Indonesia team," Albo said.

“Sobrang laking advantage nun eh, 'yung may experience talaga sa paglalaro sa abroad, nakaka-tournament ka, kasi nakakaangat rin 'yun ng morale mo. Kasi kailangan talaga namin ng experience sa game,” said Albo.
