LA Salle was his introduction, while Mighty Sports showed his potential.
But in Marinerong Pilipino, Jamie Malonzo wants everyone to see what he's made of as he leads the Skippers in the 2020 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup.
"I think the biggest thing is continuing to make a name for myself, continuing to show people what I can do and just get better everyday leading to the PBA Draft," he said.
The Fil-Am forward, who broke out in his lone UAAP season with the Green Archers, is ready to show that he isn't just capable of being the top guy but also be a leader for the Marinerong Pilipino team that came close to winning a championship last season.
"I'm very ready for it. It's something you can't shy away from. You just got to attack it going forward. Playing the game that I love, it's easy for me and I get excited for these things. It's something I'm looking for," said the 6-foot-6 forward ahead of his new endeavor.
Boosting Malonzo's confidence was the showing he had for Mighty, where he was an integral part of the team winning the championship in the 2020 Dubai International Basketball Tournament.
That winning mentality, he says, is what he got after working with veterans like Andray Blatche and Renaldo Balkman.
"Taking this championship mindset and installing it in the team that I'll set foot on, I'm happy with the chance given to me to lead this Marinero team. It's a challenge that I have to attack and I plan on doing so, and I want to bring that mindset to the team and help everyone get better everyday," the 23-year-old said.
"When I first got here, we started with the 6 a.m. practices. I know that they compete at a high level. Waking up at 6 a.m. is a little proof in the pudding for that," he said. "It's just sort of putting on the gas at this point, you just got to keep on pushing and create a name for yourself everyday. They want to win and I want to win, too."
