The new Ford Troller TX4 is a purebred off-roader from Brazil

Remember the Ford Troller T4? We featured it here late in 2019 and were enamored of its no-nonsense demeanor and go-anywhere underpinnings. More impressively, the vehicle is built in Brazil and runs on a shortened Ranger platform.

Frankly, we’re jealous of the South American market for having this toy—now even more so with the release of a new even more off-road-capable variant of the Troller called the TX4.

Underneath the hood, the Troller TX4 gets the same 3.2-liter turbodiesel Duratorq engine capable of 200hp and 470Nm of torque as the regular version, though it comes with a six-speed automatic instead of a manual transmission. More important, the TX4 receives a host of new components that add to both its capability and burly looks.

“We listened to customers, who had long been asking for the automatic transmission option, and we added other functionality and style equipment to create the TX4,” says Demétrio Fleck, Troller marketing manager. “It is a radical and unique off-roader, made to expand the range of consumers of the brand.”

Outside, the Ford Troller TX4 gets a snorkel, steel front and rear bumpers, a roof rack with adjustable crossbars, reinforced Pirelli Scorpion tires, auxiliary LED headlights with IP67K protection (meaning they can be submerged in up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes) and a winch. It also comes in three unique colors: Trancoso Brown, Maragogi Green. and Frosted Silver, and all of these come with naval blue accents on the roof, the grille, and other components.

The locking rear differential is controlled by a button, but it shuts off as soon as the vehicle reaches speeds above 40kph. When activated, it sends half of all torque to the rear wheels to help the vehicle tackle less-than-stellar driving conditions like mud, sand, and snow. Oh, and this beast has an 800mm wading depth, too.

How much for the Ford Troller TX4, you ask? It retails for 167,530 reals (about P2 million). Worth it? You be the judge.
