Cyril Gonzales leaves Mapua to return to National University

CYRIL Gonzales is returning to National University after his lone standout season in Mapua.

The 6-foot Gonzales averaged 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 steals in 23 minutes of play in his rookie year for the Cardinals in NCAA Season 95.

A fearless slasher, Gonzales was a key player in Mapua's semis bid that fell just short, placing sixth with a 9-9 record.

He reunites with coach Goldwin Monteverde, who is set to handle the Bulldogs program for the upcoming UAAP Season 83 later this year.

Gonzales, however, will have to sit out this season and will only be cleared to play in 2021.

NU has been at the cellar for the past three years, last making to the semifinals in 2015.
