The Cignal HD Spikers ended their losing streak in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational semifinals with a commanding 25-13, 25-15, and 25-20 victory over Vietnam’s Kinh Bac-Bac Ninh on Thursday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Frances Molina unloaded 16 attack points and finished with 19 markers, while Jovelyn Gonzaga scored 10 hits and Roselyn Doria dominated the middle again and came up with five blocks for a nine-point output for the HD Spikers.
Marivic Meneses and Rachel Anne Daquis contributed eight points apiece for Cignal HD, which wound up joint third with the PLDT High Speed Hitters at a 2-3 win-loss slate.
Cignal looked headed for a finals stint after an impressive elims showing but reeled back with a five-set loss to the Creamline Cool Smashers in the semis, then dropped a stinging shutout loss to the Kurashiki Ablaze and bowed out of the title race.
“Sobrang happy after nung dalawang game namin na nakakalungkot, pero well ‘yun talaga ‘yung journey namin ngayong conference… Kailangan lang din namin magrecover kasi syempre pagod na rin talaga ‘yung mga players namin,” said HD Spikers head coach Shaq Delos Santos.
Nguyen Huong paced Kinh Bac-Bac Ninh with 12 points, while Le Xuan and Nguyen Ngoc added 10 and six points, respectively, for the luckless Vietnamese, which suffered its fourth straight defeat.
