DLSU defeats USPF, advances to Shakey’s Super League quarterfinals

The De La Salle University Lady Spikers emerged victorious in the Shakey’s Super League (SSL) National Invitationals, defeating the University of Southern Philippines Foundation with a score of 25-14, 25-15, and 25-19 on Tuesday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Alleiah Malaluan’s impressive performance with 13 points from 12 hits led the reigning UAAP women’s volleyball champions to sweep Pool A with a 2-0 record, securing their spot in the quarterfinals.

Shevana Laput and Katrina Del Castillo each contributed 10 points for the Lady Spikers, who were missing stars Angel Canino and Justine Jazareno during the tournament.

Despite securing a quarterfinal entry, Lady Spikers interim coach Noel Orcullo expressed that there are ongoing challenges between their holdover players and incoming rookies.

“Marami pa kaming kulang. Lalo ‘yung connection ng setters at spikers. Marami pang kailangang ayusin. ‘Yung mga unnecessary errors, kailangan masolusyonan,” said Orcullo.

The Lady Spikers’ victory also granted their poolmate, the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Lady Altas (1-1), a spot in the quarterfinal round, while USPF bowed out of the tournament.
