Former PBA player John Arigo’s son is making a move to a different school.
In under a month of being with the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, John Abate has chosen to transfer to the University of the East Red Warriors.
Abate stated that he decided to join the Red Warriors because he envisions personal basketball development in that environment.
“USTe is a great school, but just wasn’t the best fit for me. We had mutual desires but different methods,” Abate said in an interview with Naveen Ganglani.
“I choose UE because of a mutual connection there. At first, we played against each other in states, and now we’re teammates,” he added.
“After practicing with them (UE), I realized that I really like the environment there along with the coaches,” he further said.
However, according to a source, FastBreak discovered that UE wasn’t his initial choice after departing UST; apparently, he had attempted a tryout with another UAAP school, but his application was unsuccessful.
At a height of 6 feet 1 inch, Abate remains qualified for two UAAP seasons with the Red Warriors, commencing in Season 86.
