Kiefer Ravena dismayed as Gilas fails to exact revenge on Angola

Kiefer Ravena voiced his disappointment after Gilas Pilipinas suffered a painful 80-70 loss against Angola on Sunday in the FIBA World Cup.

This is Gilas’ second straight World Cup loss against Angola. They also lost to the African squad in the 2019 edition of the tournament.

Ravena, who was part of the 2019 Gilas squad, expressed his regrets that the national team could not avenge their defeat four years ago.

“With three to four players from that 2019 team, along with some players who participated in the 2019 World Cup, watching today, it’s disappointing because we really wanted to get back at them,” Ravena told reporters after Sunday’s game.

“That was part of the motivation, bouncing back for those players who gave their best in the 2019 World Cup.”

Other current Gilas players who also played in the 2019 World Cup are June Mar Fajardo, CJ Perez, Japeth Aguilar, and RR Pogoy.

For now, Ravena fixes his eyes on what’s next for the national team.

“Once again, as I mentioned, we need to concentrate on the present, which is preparing for Italy. We can’t afford to be emotional at this point. We have one more game left to focus on,” Ravena said.

“‘Yun lang. Sayang pero kailangan bumawi ulit.” (MJD)
