Kyle Anderson struggles in debut as China’s naturalized player

NBA veteran Kyle Anderson (Li Kai’er) was limited with his production in his debut as China’s naturalized player during their 79-61 defeat to Italy in the pocket tournament in Italy on Sunday.

The Minnesota Timberwolves forward scored 11 points on 50 percent shooting to go with six rebounds in almost 20 minutes of action for FIBA World Cup-bound China.

The 29-year-old Anderson admitted that China is still struggling with their chemistry as they suffer their fourth defeat in their six overseas friendly matches so far.

“I am just trying to focus on the moment and try the best I can at what I need to do,” said Anderson in an interview with the South China Morning Post.

“We should have played better and worked harder [after that], the nine-year NBA veteran added. “We failed to do it this time, but I believe with this experience, we will be better next time.”

“We need more confidence on offense, and we need to read the game better,” Anderson further said. “We had only been together for 10 days; more training and matches will help us find some better form.”

China is slotted in Group B in the 2023 FIBA World Cup along with Serbia, Puerto Rico, and South Sudan. They will play their group stage matches at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
