Martin ekes out UD win vs Tanzanian

Filipino super bantamweight prospect Carl Jammes Martin hammered out a unanimous decision against Tanzanian Oscar Duge on Saturday at the Flash Ballroom in Sucat, Paranaque.

Duge proved to be a durable opponent, giving the Ifugao-born fighter a tough fight all throughout their 10-round slugfest.

But Martin managed to outclass the Tanzanian, prompting judges to award him a 99-91, 99-91, and 98-92 verdict.

It was Martin’s first fight after an eight-month hiatus due to a rib injury.

“Sobrang tough, hindi basta-bastang boxer,” said the Filipino southpaw in an interview on ElordeTV.

“Magaling ang matchmaker natin, talagang kumuha ng matinding kalaban para maging handa ako kung lalaban sa labas ng bansa.”

Martin improved his unbeaten record to 22 wins with no losses. Duge, on the other hand, fell to 11-6-2.

He is hopeful that a victory over Duge will pave the way for a trip to the US for more training, courtesy of MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons.

“Kailangang maglevel up. Maraming umaasang fans na after ng fight na ito makakalabas na tayo. Ang inaantay na lang natin visa,” said the young fighter.
