Like everyone else, Nesthy Petecio, a member of the Philippine women’s boxing team, also felt surprised when she discovered the salaries earned by certain Gilas Pilipinas players in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Petecio posted on her Facebook page a statement that indicated Jordan Clarkson received ₱56,781,000 and Kai Sotto received ₱11,356,200 for their five-game period with Gilas.
“Sana all 
,” was the reaction of Petecio, a silver medal winner during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Boxing is among the sports in the Philippines that reportedly lack financial support, whether from the national sports association or the private sector.
Eumir Marcial and Irish Magno, both amateur boxers, previously voiced their concerns about the insufficient financial support given to boxers by the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP).
Petecio is presently gearing up for the qualifying tournaments for the 2024 Paris Olympics, aiming to surpass her silver medal performance from the Tokyo Summer Games. (AC)
