Obiena clears 6 meters again, wins silver in worlds

EJ Obiena duplicated his personal best on Sunday (Manila time) by clearing six meters in the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

By doing so, he clinched silver in the worlds.

The Filipino finished second behind Mondo Duplantis, who won the gold by clearing 6.10m.

Australia’s Kurtis Marschall and the US’s Christopher Nilsen completed the top three by sharing the bronze.

Marschall and Nilsen made it to 5.95 m but missed the six-meter height.

Obiena, ranked No. 3 in the world, qualified for the finals by clearing 5.75 m in the preliminaries.

The 27-year-old improved on his bronze medal finish in the 2022 worlds. He joined the six-meter club by breaching the mark in June 2023 in Norway.
