Report: Chris Newsome dropped as final cut from Gilas Pilipinas pool

Chris Newsome was the final player removed from the Gilas Pilipinas pool ahead of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup later this week.

According to a tweet by Spin.ph columnist Homer Sayson, the Meralco Bolts guard was among the four players eliminated from the 16-player pool.

Bobby Ray Parks Jr., Ferdinand “Thirdy” Ravena III, and Calvin Oftana were previously removed from the national team.

The removal of these four players finalizes the ‘Gilas Pilipinas 12,’ with Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson leading as the naturalized player.

The roster also includes Japan B.League-based players Kiefer Ravena, Dwight Ramos, Kai Sotto, and AJ Edu, as well as Korean Basketball League import Rhenz Abando.

PBA players June Mar Fajardo, Earl Scottie Thompson, Japeth Aguilar, Jamie Malonzo, Jaymar Perez, and Roger Pogoy complete the 12-man team.

Gilas Pilipinas is set to kick off their FIBA World Cup campaign against the Dominican Republic on Friday night at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
