Concepcion leads NLEX past Phoenix, wins MVP award at Draft Combine

PBA prospect Archie Concepcion showcased his skills as he led NLEX to victory over Phoenix in the 5-on-5 competition during Day 2 of the Draft Combine at the Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday.

The former Arellano guard worked together with his Pampanga Giant Lanters teammates while helping Team NLEX edge the Phoenix squad 78-71.

As a result, he was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the Draft Combine.

“Sobrang saya na nakuha ko ‘yung MVP. Pero bonus na lang ito. Ang importante naipakita namin ‘yung talent namin at kung ano ang meron kami sa basketball,” said Concepcion, who scored 14 points. His Pampanga teammate Raymond Binuya topscored NLEX with 21 markers.

Concepcion attributed the victory to chemistry, noting that some of his teammates had previously played for the Lanterns, supported by Pampanga Gov. Delta Pineda.

“Nakatulong din (ang chemistry) kumbaga antagal na naming magkakasama ni (Jayson) Apolonio, (Raymond) Binuya, and MJ Garcia. Ang laking tulong na magkakasama kami sa Draft Combine,” said Concepcion, who pocketed P5,000 for the award.

Concepcion hopes his performance has beefed up his stock ahead of the PBA Draft taking place this Sunday at Market! Market!

Along with Concepcion, also chosen to make up the Mythical Team were Warren Bonifacio, Adrian Nocum, Ralph Cu, and Apolonio.
