Lionel Messi rested as Argentina shuts out Bolivia in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers

Argentina opted to rest team captain Lionel Messi as they scored an easy 3-0 victory over Bolivia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, or CONMEBOL, on Tuesday night (Wednesday, Manila time) at the Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz, Bolivia.

Enzo Fernández, Nicolas Tagliafico, and Nicolas González converted a goal each as the reigning World Cup champions got their second win in as many games in the qualifiers.

Messi, who scored the lone goal against Ecuador in the CONMEBOL last week, was rested in the match, with veteran Angel Di Maria taking over the captaincy.

Fernández opened the scoring for Argentina as he met Di Maria’s cross with a close-range finish in the 31st minute. The lead was doubled before the halftime break via a header by Tagliafico.

Argentina added another conversion in the second half as González drilled a powerful strike past the defense of Bolivian keeper Guillermo Viscarra in the 83rd minute.

The Argentineans will return to action on October 13 against Paraguay at the Mâs Monumental in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
