Rhenz Abando fires 11 points as Anyang defeats Suwon

Rhenz Abando and the Anyang CheongKwanJang Red Boosters entered the Korean Basketball League win column with a 63-59 victory over the Suwon KT Sonic Boom on Saturday night at the Suwon KT Arena.

The former Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights tallied 11 points to go with nine rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block as the defending champion Red Boosters improved to 1-1.

Jihoon Park added 10 markers, five rebounds, and four assists, while Seongwon Choi and former PBA reinforcement Du’Vaughn Maxwell contributed nine and eight points, respectively, for Anyang.

American import Paris Bass finished with a double-double of 28 points and 12 rebounds, while Filipino import Sean Ildefonso was scoreless in five minutes of action as Sonic Boom dropped to 1-2.

Meanwhile, Justin Gutang had a decent offensive showing as the Changwon LG Sakers notched their first victory of the season at the expense of Sam Josef Belangel and Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus.

Gutang, formerly of the College of St. Benilde Blazers, posted 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists to back up the 20 points of Assem Marei and the 15 markers of Hongseok Yang as the LG Sakers moved up to 1-3.

Belangel, for his part, finished with 19 points, including three outside connections, while Andrew Nicholson spearheaded the attacks with 31 points. The Pegasus dropped to 0-2.

Ethan Alvano continued his solid showing for the Wonju DB Promy (3-0) as they prevailed over the Busan KCC Aegis (1-1). The Filipino-American guard tallied 18 markers for Wonju.
