UP trounces UE for 2-0 start

Reigning MVP Malick Diouf posted a monster double-double of 19 points and 16 rebounds to lead the UP Fighting Maroons to an 84-69 demolition of the UE Red Warriors in the UAAP Season 86 Men’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday.

Diouf scored seven points early in the first quarter as the Maroons opened the game with a 10-0 run to take control of the game. UP finished the first frame with a commanding 32-9 lead over the Warriors.

UE tried to stage a comeback in the second half and managed to trim their deficit to 10, 53-63, in the fourth quarter. However, UP answered with a 10-0 blast to seal the deal.

CJ Cansino also had a brilliant performance for UP, with 17 points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.

With the win, UP climbed to 2-0, while UE absorbed their first loss of the season after starting their campaign with an impressive win over UST.

Precious Momowei scored 12 points and grabbed 22 rebounds for the Warriors, while Rey Remogat had an all-around stat line of 11 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. (MJD)
