UST’s Pastrana scores 28 ahead of showdown against former school

University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigresses star Kent Jane Pastrana had a strong warm-up before her team’s upcoming clash against her former team, the De La Salle University Lady Archers, this weekend.

Pastrana scored 28 points, leading the Growling Tigresses to an 84-65 victory over the Adamson University Lady Falcons in the UAAP Season 86 women’s basketball tournament at Adamson Gym in San Marcelino, Manila.

She expressed her excitement about facing her former teammates from Taft but emphasized her focus on extending the Growling Tigresses’ 2-0 start in the tournament.

“Excited po ako na makaharap uli sila, pero hindi ako magpapadala sa pressure sa laro na ‘yun. I just want to lead my team to a victory,” said Pastrana after the match.

Pastrana began her college journey with the Lady Archers, earning the UAAP Rookie of the Year award in her sole season during Season 82. However, amid the pandemic, she made a decision to switch teams, joining the Growling Tigresses.

Coach Haydee Ong of the Growling Tigresses mentioned that she wasn’t surprised by Pastrana’s explosive performance, as she had been tracking her talent since her days in Silay City, Negros Occidental.

“Of course, we were expecting these types of performances from Kent. Even when she was in Silay, I knew she was special. It was God’s will to bring her to UST,” said Ong.

Aside from Pastrana, Tantoy Ferrer (12 points, seven rebounds), Ana Tacatac (12 points), and Rachelle Ambos (10 points, seven rebounds) also hit double-digits in UST’s win over Adamson.
