UP’s Malick Diouf not after a second consecutive UAAP MVP trophy

University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons star center Maodo Malick Diouf is not focusing on winning a second consecutive UAAP MVP trophy in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament.

According to the Senegalese center, his concentration this season is to help the Fighting Maroons bounce back from their Season 85 loss to the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles.

“I’m not here for individual awards. I just wanna play. I’m just here to play and help my team,” said Diouf, who is on his final year with the Fighting Maroons.

“Everybody (in the league) wants to improve, so (the MVP award) is a bonus,” he added. “My focus is on helping my team win the championship anew.”

Diouf came out swinging for the Fighting Maroons this UAAP season with a three-game average of 17 points, 15.33 rebounds, 2.67 blocks, and 1.33 assists.

His strong showing has translated into three wins so far for UP against the Adamson University Falcons, the University of the East Red Warriors, and the National University Bulldogs.
