Japeth Aguilar bids farewell to Gilas Pilipinas after 19th Asian Games

Japeth Aguilar stated that the recently concluded 19th Asian Games men’s basketball tournament was his “last dance” with Gilas Pilipinas.

The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings center expressed his happiness that his Gilas Pilipinas journey ended on a historic note.

“This is my last dance. What a way to end it,” Aguilar said in an interview with One Sports’ Belle Gregorio.

Aguilar and the Gilas Pilipinas recently won their first Asian Games gold medal since 1962 with a 70-60 victory over Jordan.

The former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles center began his national team career with Gilas Pilipinas 1 under Rajko Toroman in 2010.

Since then, he has been called up to the Gilas Pilipinas several times under different coaches, including Chot Reyes, Tab Baldwin, and his Gin Kings mentor Tim Cone.

Aguilar has won three gold medals with the national team (2017 SEABA, 2019 Southeast Asian Games, and 2022 Asian Games), one silver (2013 FIBA Asia Championship), and two bronzes (2011 William Jones Cup and 2014 FIBA Asia Cup).
