Chot Reyes to TNT: ‘Let’s make this the best week’ as Grand Slam hopes stay alive

TNT Tropang 5G head coach Vincent “Chot” Reyes lauded his players for their resiliency and challenged them to keep fighting with their PBA Season 49 Grand Slam hopes hanging in the balance.

Following TNT’s hard-fought 86-78 win in Game 5 of the Philippine Cup Finals against San Miguel, Reyes said he was proud of how his team responded under pressure to extend the best-of-seven title series.

“Our pre-game talk was all about this is a very, very long season and we are down to our final week, and I said that, ‘Let’s make this the best week,’” Reyes said in the post-game presser. “We will just fight as hard as we can, and we’ll see what happens.”

The seasoned tactician noted that the team’s determination was evident even before tip-off.

“I could see in yesterday’s practice, and today in the body language and in the eyes of our players, they were not willing to give up,” he said. “We said that all year that, as long as we show up and we don’t give up, we will give ourselves a chance.”

The Tropang 5G leaned on a balanced attack to stay alive in the Finals, with Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser and Kelly Williams stepping up in the absence of big man John Paul Erram, who remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Rosser finished with 18 points, while Williams added 14.

TNT will aim to force a do-or-die Game 7 when they clash with the Beermen once again on Friday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
