Oftana lauds TNT’s supporting cast in Game 5 win vs SMB

TNT Tropang 5G forward Calvin Oftana gave credit to the team’s role players for stepping up in their 86-78 win over the San Miguel Beermen in Game 5 of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals on Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Oftana acknowledged that with him and Roger Pogoy being closely guarded, the offensive contributions of Almond Vosotros, Kim Aurin, and Jordan Heading were vital in keeping their title hopes alive.

“‘Yun (offensive contributions ng ibang players) ‘yung mga bagay na kailangan namin every game eh,” Oftana told DWAR Abante Radyo’s Zeus Valdez.

“Hindi naman nila kailangang umiskor ng malaki, knowing na dinidepensahan din kami eh, kami ni Roger, malaking bagay sila, nagchi-chip in sila, malaking bagay ‘yun.”

Vosotros scored 11 points off the bench; Heading chipped in 13—many of them in the fourth quarter—while Aurin added six in limited minutes.

Oftana also cited TNT’s better ball control in the final stretch as a key factor in securing the win, as they trimmed their fourth-quarter turnovers to three compared to five in Game 4. The Tropang Giga finished with 15 turnovers overall.

“‘Yung turnovers siguro ‘yung na-cut namin. Lumiit ‘yung turnovers namin kaysa nung mga nakaraang games namin,” he said.

TNT will try to force a deciding Game 7 when they face San Miguel again in Game 6 on Friday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
