Cade Cunningham acknowledges Pistons’ struggles, labels team as subpar

Former number one pick Cade Cunningham gave a blunt statement on the performance of the Detroit Pistons to start the 2023–2024 season.

The Pistons are currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a 2-13 record. Despite their ugly win-loss record, some of their losses have been close games.

Cunningham, who is the Pistons’ main offensive weapon, shared his thoughts on their team’s performance to start the season.

“We got to be realistic about the situation,” Cunningham told James Edwards of The Athletic. “It’s hard to just be like, ‘We’re good, we’re good,’ you know what I’m saying? Because we’re bad. We have to address that. We have to address what we’re not good at. Address it with not only our words but on the court, in the huddles.”

Cunningham, the first overall pick of the 2021 NBA draft, is averaging 21.4 points, 7.3 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.8 turnovers per game so far this season.

One of the problems that has been hounding the Pistons this season is the number of their injured players. Detroit continues to miss the services of Monte Morris, Bojan Bogdanovic, Jalen Duren, and Joe Harries due to injuries. (MJD)
