Ginebra dominates NorthPort, inches closer to Top 4

Defending champion Barangay Ginebra rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat NorthPort, 103-93, moving closer to a Top 4 finish and a potential twice-to-beat advantage in the next round of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The Gin Kings employed a balanced attack, led by import Tony Bishop with 26 points and 16 rebounds.

Christian Standhardinger and Jamie Malonzo both contributed 16 points each, while Japeth Aguilar added 15 points alongside an impressive 21 rebounds.

Maverick Ahanmisi also contributed productively with 13 points.

Ginebra is now tied for fourth place with a 7-3 record.

The Gin Kings were down 69-67 against the Batang Pier in the latter part of the third period. However, the crowd favorite staged a significant comeback, overwhelming NorthPort to lead 96-79.

The Batang Pier couldn’t recover after Ginebra’s massive surge.

The Kings collectively focused on neutralizing import Venky Jois around the paint to gain control, ultimately warding off the Batang Pier, who will enter the quarters with a twice-to-win disadvantage.

Arvin Tolentino led NorthPort in scoring with 27 points, while Jois contributed 21 points and 17 rebounds.

Despite their efforts, NorthPort concluded the elimination round with a 6-5 record.
