The Petro Gazz Angels are counting on Japanese head coach Koji Tsuzubara to be their “driving force” for the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season campaign.
Tsuzubara was appointed as the new head coach for the Angels after Timmy Sto. Tomas stepped down, choosing to concentrate on coaching the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles men’s volleyball team in the upcoming UAAP Season 86 tournament.
“Our new driving force and guiding light have come aboard! We are ready and excited as you steer us to new heights as our Head Coach,” the Angels wrote in a social media post.
Tsuzubara, with coaching experience for national teams like Thailand (U-20 and U-21), Malaysia, Myanmar, and Chinese Taipei, is familiar with the PVL. Recently, he coached the U-19 team of Kinh Bac Bac Ninh in last year’s Invitational Conference.
In addition to coaching Kinh Bac Bac Ninh’s youth squad, Tsuzubara has gained coaching experience with Oita Miyoshi (Japan), Hamilton (New Zealand), Al-Hedayah (Saudi Arabia), and Hitachi (Japan).
The Angels disappointed with a sixth-place finish in the 2023 PVL Second All-Filipino Conference last December.
