UAAP anchor Noah Webb clarified that his controversial “Ready ka na ba sa English ko?” remark directed at University of the East Junior Warriors player John Edry Alejandro was meant as “typical humor.”
Responding to the viral post from the UE Red Tribe, the former University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons player mentioned that it was not his intention to shame Alejandro during a live television broadcast.
“Nag-usap kami ni John, and he was very understanding na typical humor ito between basketball teammates (any interaction really). Pero in hind sight, galit din ako na sinabi ko ‘yun kasi, hindi talaga siya nakakatawa,” Webb wrote.
“Nasabi ko lang ‘yun para may masabi eh 
moving forward, I will definitely think about my position, and how what I say may be interpreted by the people watching,” he added.
“I hope people can see things from my point of view too! That I was just trying to put the guy at ease,” Webb further said. “No harm meant, and anyone that has met me personally can vouch for me that I’m overall a nice guy that really meant no I’ll will towards anyone.”
Webb received online criticism for making the remark to Alejandro during a Player of the Game interview after the Junior Warriors’ 84-78 victory over the De La Salle Zobel Junior Archers in the UAAP Season 86 high school boys basketball tournament on Sunday.
“May I share something lang with whoever reads this? To help understand where someone is coming from, it’s good practice to assume ignorance before malevolence,” Webb said. “Again, not trying to excuse my actions, just sharing my side of the story.”
