Coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes acknowledged that the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses experienced a loss of momentum during the third and fourth sets of their thrilling 25-18, 25-23, 14-25, 16-25, and 15-12 victory against the De La Salle University Lady Spikers on Sunday.
Reyes noted that while the Golden Tigresses were highly motivated in the first two sets, they experienced a dip in energy during the next two, enabling the Lady Spikers to seize the momentum.
“Dun naman team ng UST, ‘yung motivation nila sobra-sobra pero nung dumating ‘yung third and fourth set na-low batt na,” Reyes told the media in a post-game interview. “Again, ang good thing nanalo kami.”
“Nung fifth set hindi sila bumitaw, ang layo na ng score eh, 9-12,” the long-time Golden Tigresses mentor added. “Pero ‘yun lang naman talaga eh. Huwag tumigil habang hindi pa tapos ang laban.”
Pepito, awarded Player of the Game for her exceptional performance with 18 excellent receptions and 12 excellent digs, emphasized that their determination to win remained evident even during the Lady Spikers’ comeback.
“Hindi namin sinayang kasi talagang pinaghandaan namin and sabi nga namin, ‘Labanan talaga ito ng kung sinong gustong manalo.’ So mas gusto namin manalo this time,“ Pepito said.
The Golden Tigresses aim to carry their momentum into the upcoming match against the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws next Sunday.
