Jay Yutuc secured a game-winning basket, leading the Manila City Stars to a narrow 68-66 victory over the RCP Demigods in the Pilipinas Super League President’s Cup at the FilOil EcoOil Center in San Juan City on Thursday night.
Trailing 64-66 with less than a minute left, Yutuc leveled the score at 66-all with a layup at 45 seconds. He then secured a go-ahead basket with 21 seconds remaining, propelling Manila to a 68-66 lead.
The Stars still had a chance to widen the lead, but Kent Lao missed on his two free throws. The Demigods had an opportunity to win the game, but Nino Ibanez misfired his triple try at the buzzer.
Yutuc finished the game with six points, six rebounds, and two steals for the Stars, which secured their fourth victory in 12 matches so far.
Biboy Enguio top-scored for Manila with 25 points, including five three-point conversions, to go with six rebounds and three steals, while Lao added 15 points and seven rebounds.
Ibanez led the way for the Demigods with 18 points, with three outside shots, while Paolo Hubalde added 14 markers, seven assists, three rebounds, and three steals as they dropped to 2-10 in the standings.
