Creamline Cool Smashers’ Bernadeth Pons gained a confidence boost with a rare start in their 25-13, 25-13, 25-19 victory over Strong Group Athletics in the PVL 1st All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday night.
Pons expressed gratitude to Cool Smashers head coach Sherwin Meneses for trusting her to start against SGA, believing it would benefit her in the upcoming tournament matches.
“Syempre sobrang laking bagay kasi ‘yung trust ng coaches sa akin para mag start sa loob. Every game naman ready kami kung anong puwesto ang ibigay sa amin ng coaches, naka mindset lahat,” Pons said in a post-game interview.
“Yes naman (boost to sa confidence ko ‘yun) kasi every game naman may natutunan kami so malaking bagay itong panalong ito para sa mga susunod na games,” added the former national women’s beach volleyball team mainstay.
Pons revealed that Meneses emphasized the importance of taking the game seriously against SGA, despite being newcomers in the league, during the Cool Smashers’ match.
“Niremind kami ni coach na huwag kami dapat magpabaya, na ilaro namin kung ano ‘yung laro namin sa loob, and huwag maging complacent sa kalaban,” the Talisay City, Negros Occidental native said.
The defending champions, the Cool Smashers, currently hold the top spot in the standings with a flawless 4-0 win-loss record.
