After knocking out his Thai foe during his homecoming fight, Eumir Marcial is taking the next step to fulfill his Olympic dream.
Marcial already won a bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, and he hopes to win the gold in Paris.
Having to fight Thailand’s Thoedsak Sinam is a crucial part of reaching that goal, said Marcial.
“Malaking bagay po ito sa akin na lumaban po ako dito, dahil after ko mag-qualify sa Asian Games last year, wala na po akong exposure,” Marcial told ABS-CBN News after knocking out Sinam in four rounds.
Marcial qualified for the Paris Olympics by making it to the finals of his division in the Asiad.
“Iba po ‘yung training na nagte-training ka lang, kesa ‘yung training na may pinaghahandaan ka na laban. So itong laban ko ito, pinaghandaan talaga namin, na hindi lang para dito, pati after dito, diretso na kami,” he said.
He will be reuniting with the Philippine national team as they train in the US and Thailand.
Marcial said if he wins the Olympic gold, then he will pour all his time into the pro ranks.
“Sabi ko, makuha ko muna ‘yung gold sa Paris, and then gagalingan ko pa ng lalo sa professional,” he said.
